The forever enigmatic ‘Satkosia Gandaw’ got its name from ‘Sat-Kosh’, a stretch of the Mahanadi here flows in full flow all-round the year. With an array of activities from camping to star gazing to boating to cycling and whatnot, this place is the second most visited place in Odisha for a reason. Once it was known only for its unfathomable water is now the best example of transformation through eco & community-enabled tourism.

Major Attractions

Given the vastness of Satkosia, there are multiple entry into the place like through Nayagarh district where one can enjoy boating at Badmul ghat and relax at the cosy camps, and the other camping sites are in Angul district like at Tikarpada. Apart from camping, the place has a Tiger Reserve and a paradise on earth for nature lovers, birders and photographers. Even though you are not a pro at camping or serious adventure, the place has so much on offer that there is no moment of boredom.

How to go!

Satkosia is about 130kms from the state capital. The most convenient way to travel to this place is hiring a taxi with sound knowledge about the route to Satkosia. Even though there are multiple entry points to the place but going through Badmul (Nayagarh district) can capture the best of Satkosia. If you are on a budget, standard non-ac private and state government operated buses are available but these are more suitable for those with the luxury of longer vacation.
