Unique Forest trail - Similipal

Similipal National Park is a national park and a tiger reserve in the Mayurbhanj district in Odisha covering almost 2,750 km2 . This is part of the Mayurbhanj Elephant Reserve, which includes three protected areas — Similipal Tiger Reserve, Hadgarh Wildlife Sanctuary  and Kuldiha Wildlife Sanctuary .  Simlipal National Park derives its name from the abundance of red silk cotton(simili)  trees growing in the area. It is the seventh largest national park in India.

About 1076 species of mammals, 29 types of reptiles and 231 species of birds are the proud possession of this plateau. Average mean elevation of Similipal is 900 meters.

Major attraction

Being surrounded by dense forest, sloping landscape it offers a package of experiences to the visitors. While you are at Similipal, be ready to experience the  Jungle Safari & guided treks. Apart from safari and treks, Birding is highly recommended for Similipal with its unique ecosystem supports a huge variety of avian species. 2/3 days will be good enough to enjoy this place with family or friends. There are good accommodations inside the forest area which are run by Odisha Forest department. There is also a beautiful resort at Lulung to offer you upmarket staying experience. The panoramic view of the waterfalls at Barehipani (400 meters) and Joranda(150 meters) are simply enchanting of fish, is found in abundance in most of the rivers.

How to go!

This place is well connected with almost major towns of the state. It has basically two entries – Jashipur and Pithabata. Both entries are good and forest officials will guide you for further process once you reach the gates. Jashipur is appx 240kms and Pithabata is appx 215kms from Bhubaneswar.
